OBJECTIVES
Tracking Forests & Fire, Consequences for Ecosystem Services

Tyler is a PhD student advised by Dr. Jennifer Balch and Dr. Laura Dee at the University of Colorado, Boulder. His work investigates dimensions of social-ecological risk and resilience in the face of disturbances, particularly the tension between benefits and detriments of wildfire. In his research he integrates methods from the fields of fire ecology, geography, remote sensing, and econometrics.
Tyler grew up in Wyoming and now lives in Colorado. He is an avid outdoor recreationalist, enjoys a good book on a rainy day, and attempts to publish poetry every once in a while. Tyler earned his B.S. (2016) and M.S. (2018) degrees in Earth Systems from Stanford University, where his research was focused on social-ecological interactions in highly fragmented forest landscapes in Uganda and Paraguay. As a member of the collaborative, Tyler contributes to efforts related to ecologically beneficial fire.
