OBJECTIVES

Kathy is a grassland ecologist and Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her current work focuses on the effects and management of fire in grassland ecosystems, and the benefits of custom fuel models in understanding and simulating fire behavior in grasslands. During her PhD at Colorado State University, she combined field manipulation experiments and observational studies to assess legacy effects of precipitation extremes in northern Colorado’s shortgrass steppe. Kathy is particularly interested in the interactive effects of disturbance, like fire, in the context of current or past climate extremes.
